Input files - FSSP formats

In addition to the temperature profile data, used by most models in FSSP it can be relevant to read data for (i) shelf-life at different temperatures, (ii) concentrations of bacteria at different times and (iii) growth rates at various storage conditions into the following modules of the software:

FSSP can import these types of data as specific ASCII- or XML-formats or by using the FSSP raw data importer. The ASCII file formats are very simple and appropriate to generate by text editors and spreadsheets (See examples below). As explained for the temperature profile data it is not advisable to generate XML files using text editors or spreadsheets. XML files, however, can be generated by FSSP and this can be most useful when input data are needed e.g. as part of demonstrations or teaching sessions.

Comparison of observed and predicted RRS data (ASCII file format)

Shelf-life data in the format shown below can be read by FSSP as text files (txt) e.g. generated as a tabulator separated text file created by using a spreadsheet. The text 'RRS' in the first line is required for FSSP to recognize the file format.

RRS
Temp. (°C) Shelf-life (Days)
0 52
5 38
10 23
15 14.5
25 6

Comparison of observed and predicted data in microbial spoilage models - Primary growth model at constant or dynamic storage conditions

Growth curve data, i.e. concentrations of bacteria (Log cfu/g > 0) at different times) can be read by FSSP as text files (txt) in the simple format shown below The text 'MSM1' in the first line is required for FSSP to recognize the file format.  The text files can e.g. be generated as tabulator separated txt-files using a spreadsheet.

MSM1
Time (h) Log(cfu/g)
0 2.00
24 2.20
48 3.10
71 4.30
97 5.40
118 6.80
140 7.50
160 7.80
181 8.00

Comparison of observed and predicted data in microbial spoilage models - Secondary microbial model

To compare observed and predicted maximum specific growth rates (µmax , h-1) for Photobacterium phosphoreum and H2S-producing Shewanella by using FSSP growth rate data, in the format shown below, can be imported as an ASCII file. See e.g. ASCII-MSM2.txt The text 'MSM2' in the first line is required for FSSP to recognize the file format. For each µmax-value the corresponding temperature and equilibrium CO2-concentration must be specified and in addition the water activity and pH at which results were obtained can be indicated. These ASCII files can e.g. be generated as tabulator separated txt-files using a spreadsheet.
